Dr. Nicolas Kokkalis, a distinguished Stanford PhD, serves as the Head of Technology at Pi Network. Renowned for his expertise in decentralized applications, he taught Stanford’s first class on the subject, CS359B, in 2018. His academic and professional pursuits focus on merging distributed systems with human-computer interaction to make cryptocurrency accessible to everyday people.
Dr. Kokkalis began his journey with a BS and MS in Computer Science, followed by a PhD at Stanford University. He continued his research as a Postdoctoral Scholar in the Computer Science department. His pioneering work includes developing an early framework for writing “smart contracts” on fault-tolerant distributed systems and creating multiple human-focused products, such as online social applications with over 20 million users and a crowd-powered email assistant.
A steadfast advocate for the technical, financial, and social potential of cryptocurrencies, Dr. Kokkalis is dedicated to overcoming their current limitations.
